| This presentation will describe both the internal and external appeal systems under the Workers' Compensation Act of Nova Scotia. Information will be shared with slides, a short video and the session will include a brief introduction to the hearing setting by means of a mock hearing.
Louanne will be accompanied by Kenneth LeBlanc, Chief Worker Adviser for Nova Scotia.

About the Speaker:
Louanne Labelle has been an appeal commissioner with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Tribunal (Nova Scotia) since 1999. She was appointed Acting Chief Appeal Commissioner in July, 2004 and was appointed Chief Appeal Commissioner in August, 2005.
Louanne is originally from Montreal. She holds law degrees from Dalhousie and University of Montreal and is currently a member of the Nova Scotia and Quebec Barristers’ Societies as well as the Canadian Bar association. Prior to joining the Tribunal as an appeal commissioner in 1999, she was in private law practice for several years in Dartmouth and served a five-year term as a small claims court adjudicator.
She represents Nova Scotia on the Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals [CCAT] Board of Directors, a national organization promoting excellence in administrative justice. She has been involved for many years with CCAT’s professional development committee and the annual conference organizing committees, particularly chairing the Workers’ Compensation roundtable. In May 2009, she co-chaired the 25th annual CCAT conference held in Halifax.
As the Chief Appeal Commissioner, she has given many presentations on the subject of the appeal system within workers’ compensation in NS to stakeholders as part of the workplace safety and insurance system’s outreach to stakeholder groups.
